LEH, Feb 24: The 47th birth anniversary of HH the Gyalwang Drukpa Rinpochey was celebrated at Naro Photang Pushpa Hari, Shey, here today.

The grand ceremony was held attended by a large number of people including monks and nuns from all over the Ladakh region. Prominent among those who were present were Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh, Chering Dorje, former MP Thupstan Chhewang and other dignitories.

Gyalwang Drukpa Rinpochey, in his speech extended his appreciation and thanks to the people of Ladakh for celebrating birthday of such a great spiritual leader in a befitting traditional manner.

He stressed need for preservation and promotion of age-old cultural heritage of this part of the country.

Besides, Chering Dorje, Thupstan Chhewang, Rigzin Spalbar and Lobzang Rinchen also addressed the people on this occasion.

The programme of birthday also included Sang-sol in early morning, Tsogs-gya, Mandal-Stensum by monks religious Chhams and other rituals as also illumination of surrounding hills and Shey Palace in the evening.
